OMVIC’s transaction fee is $10.00 per vehicle for transactions conducted on or before March 31, 2024, and $12.50 for transactions occurring from April 1, 2024, onward. Examples of motor vehicles subject to these transaction fees include cars, vans, trucks, SUVs and motorcycles.

Dealers are responsible for self-reporting and remitting transaction fees with their annual renewal application.

Dealers must ensure their reports are accurate and truthful and must be able to present them at the time of inspection.

OMVIC appreciates the efforts of dealers to comply with the transaction fee program. However, OMVIC has recently seen variations in the transaction fee being charged (e.g., $13.00) by some dealers. As the transaction fee is now set at $12.50 per applicable transaction, dealers must adhere to this amount. Dealers are required to remit this transaction fee with every retail sale, lease, fleet and “as-is” vehicle transaction.

To ensure compliance and transparency, dealers who pass the fee on to consumers at the time of the transaction must:

  • Include this fee in the total advertised price to adhere to all-in pricing regulations
  • Accurately identify and itemize this fee on all applicable contracts

Dealers are expected to adhere to these contractual and advertising guidelines. Non-compliance and misleading or inaccurate reports will result in appropriate administrative action.
