Government of Ontario Announces 14 Day Closure, OMVIC Pledges Co-Operation
(Toronto, Ontario, March 23, 2020) – In response to the Government Ontario announcement earlier today, the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry of Ontario (OMVIC) pledges to work with the automotive sales industry and its partners as it faces the health, social, and economic impact of COVID-19.
OMVIC supports the efforts of all levels of government as they prioritize the health and welfare of all Canadians. The closure announced by the Ontario Government orders the mandatory closure of all non-essential workplaces effective at midnight on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. “We strongly support and encourage following all health directives pertaining to public health to curb the spread of COVID-19, and urge businesses to make the necessary arrangements to comply with this order” stated John Carmichael, CEO, OMVIC.
During this forced closure, OMVIC will continue to operate from remote sites, and work with its stakeholders. The impact on the automotive industry is significant, and OMVIC will partner with its stakeholders through these challenging times.
“The impact of COVID-19 will likely be felt for months, and as an industry, we will have to adapt and have flexibility to deal with what lies ahead. I have no doubt that we will be successful in facing these changes together” said John Carmichael, CEO, OMVIC.
