OMVIC has enhanced its annual transaction fee reporting process to better support dealers in accurately reporting all motor vehicle retail, lease, and exported non-dealer transactions.
This process change follows a comprehensive review, which included feedback from a recent pilot project and recommendations from the Auditor General of Ontario, aimed at addressing identified inconsistencies and improving the overall process.
The enhanced reporting process is designed to streamline the auditing of transaction fees and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of inspections for both dealers and OMVIC. It will also strengthen the monitoring and reporting mechanisms for transaction fees and help motor vehicle fraud detection and prevention efforts. Additionally, this improved process will provide OMVIC’s enforcement team with an additional tool to investigate curbsiding activities linked to motor vehicle re-VINning.
Dealers whose registrations renew on or after January 6, 2025, will be required to complete the new Transaction Fee Register and upload it through their dealer portal.
In the coming weeks, OMVIC will provide you with access to the new Transaction Fee Register form and detailed guidance on how to use it effectively. We will share step-by-step instructions on accessing, completing, and submitting the Register through the dealer portal when reporting transactions during the period specified on annual renewal applications. This guidance will also include details on what information to report and how to ensure compliance with the enhanced reporting requirements. Stay tuned for further updates to make this transition to the new system as smooth as possible.
To assist dealers in navigating the updated process, OMVIC will be hosting an informational webinar on Friday, November 29th at 11:00 a.m. to address any questions or comments. Please click here to register via Zoom.
