OMVIC is currently searching for a Manager, Communication and Strategic Relations for our Toronto corporate office.

Who is OMVIC?

OMVIC (Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council) is Ontario’s vehicle sales regulator. OMVIC enforces the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act and other consumer protection statutes for the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement. OMVIC’s mandate and role is to maintain a fair and informed marketplace by protecting the rights of consumers, enhancing industry professionalism, and ensuring fair, honest, and open competition for registered motor vehicle dealers. This is achieved by maintaining strict dealer/salesperson registration requirements; inspecting all Ontario dealers (new and used); providing free complaint handling to consumers; developing/delivering consumer and dealer education/awareness programs; and investigating and prosecuting industry non-compliance and illegal sales (curbsiding).

Role Summary:

The Manager of Communications and Strategic Relations is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing internal and external communication strategies to support the organization’s objectives. This role will manage relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and media, ensuring that the organization’s voice and values are effectively represented.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute all communication strategies and campaigns, ensure consistent brand messaging across all platforms, and identify media trends and opportunities for positive exposure for various channels.
  • Enhance employee engagement through internal communication strategies.
  • Serve as a media contact, managing relationships with journalists, influencers, and media.
  • Prepare spokespeople and executives for media interviews.
  • Coordinate public consultations and surveys for feedback.
  • Act as the primary contact for stakeholder inquiries and organize and participate in stakeholder meetings and events.
  • Develop and maintain crisis communication plans.
  • Lead and mentor the communications team.
  • Report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and adjust strategies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 4-6 years leading a communications team with direct reports
  • 5-7 years of experience in marketing and communications
  • 5-7 years of experience in stakeholder and industry relations
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field
  • Experience in creating communication strategies that blend short-and-long-term goals
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communications skills with a proven ability to build trust and foster collaboration.
