Call for your feedback – Modernizing the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act

The Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement (MPBSDP) is considering revisions to the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act (MVDA) and its regulations, overseen by the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC). Proposed changes aim to streamline regulations, improve car-buyer protection, and address sector-specific issues.
Key proposals include:
The MPBSD is soliciting your feedback on proposed amendments to the MVDA and its regulations. Your input is crucial in shaping these changes. Some proposed amendments include:
- Requiring a two-day cooling-off period on all transactions before the consumer takes possession of the motor vehicle.
- Requiring OMVIC to develop an information guide for consumers and for registrants to provide a copy to consumers.
- Allowing trade outside a dealer’s place of business when the consumer has initiated contact with the registrant and requested a trade outside of the place of business.
- Limiting the ability of dealers to require consumers to purchase add-on goods and services in a motor vehicle sale.
- Limiting the sale of “as-is” vehicles.
